Welcome to Node 8560, located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  This Node is part of the Internet Radio Linking Project (IRLP) and is located at the American Red Cross Chapter in the southeast part of the city.

The node is generally open to routine traffic but it's primary mission is to support emergency communications. During Hurricane Lili, IRLP played an important role in amateur radio communications . The node  maintained communication with the National Hurricane Center in Miami Florida.  Other nodes in Lafayette, Abbeville and Greenwell Springs were also linked to the Hurricane Center via the East Coast Reflector.

It is available for use by all licensed amateurs from 6am to 11pm CST during normal times and 24 hours a day during special events / emergencies.

Since this is a simplex node, be sure to listen before you start talking or open any new connections.  If a  portable station is using the node,  you may only hear the other side of the conversation.  Please read the IRLP operating guidelines before using the node.

I invite you to join us and the hundreds of other amateurs in the exciting network of stations around the world. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Robert - N5ULA
