Hot Rocks Bike Ride
|
|
Its that time of year again!
The Hot Rocks bike ride in Rockwall is Saturday, Aug. 9 and we need all the ham radio help we can get. We start early in the morning and finish about noon -- It all helps the Rockwall Rotary Club support the youth in our area. Its a great opportunity to get in some net practice too. Food and T-shirt included.
Duties include sag wagon, rest stop and very dangerous intersection patrol.
>> This is a great event for the new ham too -- No experience is necessary !!!
>>> If you can help, please . . . CONTACT me with your call, name and phone ASAP. <<<
Thanks for the help -- you DO make a difference!

Texas Tough 150
|
This event is in support of Children’s Hospital of Dallas and is the biking third of a Trialathon event. There will be a 150 mile route, a 75 mile route and a 25 mile route if I remember correctly, the distances may be slightly different, but 3 routes and looped like the Marathon.
At this time the route is semi-finalized and the plan is to start at Victory Square at the American Airlines center like the Wellstone Dallas White Rock Marathon, but go up Commerce Street then over to I-30 service road out to Mesquite beyond I-635, south to Balch Springs, north into southern Garland, then back to Victory Square along the I-30 service road and backtracking through downtown Dallas along Elm Street.
There will be a 150 mile route, a 75 mile route and a 25 mile route, the distances may be slightly different, but 3 routes and looped like the Marathon. Start time is about 6:30 to 7:00 on Sunday September the 14th, rain or shine, within reason of course.
Current thinking is that this will be a large event with some 5000 riders. Means a lot of folks to corral. There will be several water stations along the route and some sort of communications will be needed there to assure supplies. Additional strategic locations along the route will also need comms. The plans are also to have roving vehicles along with motorcycles using CB’s(yes, there really are a few of those still around) to keep up with any flats, breakdowns or fall-outs. There will be one or more shag (SAG) wagons and a tail-ender to pick up those who are on the course too long. Plans are to be finished by about 3PM. Brand new event and no history, so it’s really interesting so far. Additional information regarding the race can be found at; TX Tough
