Little Shack

I first became interested in amateur radio in July 1999 after listening to a friend (Jim WZ7W) doing CW in his car. From that moment I was hooked. Morse was something new to me and I just had to learn it. I enjoyed every minute of it and I suppose that is why it came fairly easy. I received my Tech ticket in September and by March of 2000 I had my Extra ticket in hand.

I was an Avionics Tech in the Coast Guard and racked up over 6000 hours flight time as a Radio Op, Navigator or Sensor operator on HC-130's. I believe that is one reason that I was drawn to CW. We did not do it.

I run QRP and find it a lot of fun to make contacts (especially DX) with a small amount of power. Most times you will find me on the lower sections of the bands but I enjoy just about any aspect of ham radio.

I have 3 kids who are my life so that means I am now part Taxi driver but when things settle down I try to work a few stations.

The other passions in my life are hunting, fishing, and boating which my kids enjoy so when the weather is nice I will be on the water baiting hooks.

I have been thinking about combining my water sport activity with ham radio so stay tuned. If all goes well, the salt water activies may include antenna fun...
