My Bio:
In 1991 a good friend Tim
Vinson (KD4BOU) started talking to me about Ham Radio, and how much fun he was
having in the hobby. He invited me to his home one evening to operate his
station.
We started out on the HF
bands, listened to some hams talking on I think it was 20 meters. After a while
we went over to 2 meters to a local repeater, talked some hams that were there
carrying on a conservation I am not sure
who the hams were on the repeater I guess age has kicked in now.
I began my Ham Radio career in 1992 were I pasted my
Technician License test in Russellville, Alabama. Shortly after that I joined the Bankhead
Amateur Radio Club in Moulton, Alabama. In a few years I went to Decatur, Alabama to a testing session at the Aqua Dome Pool, and Recreation Center. I upgrade to Tech. Plus that evening. When I took
the test I started out by setting in on a 20 wpm test, 13 wpm, and then took
the 5 wpm test. By the time I got to the 5 I was waiting on the characters to
be sent. I operated on CW and 10 meters SSB for a few years before trying for
my General. I upgraded to General License, and past the 13 wpm CW test at the Bankhead Amateur Radio Club’s Hamfest
some were around 1998. I stayed a General up until September 2006, and upgrade
to Amateur Extra at the Ten-Tec Hamfest in Sevierville, Tennessee. Two good friend of mine were there with me, Ed
(KS4B), and Neil (N4ION) when I pasted the test which I mite add was tuff for a
written test. I have made a lot friend’s in Amateur Radio, KN4CI, AI4EP, W0CIR,
K4JLE, the list goes on.
When I joined the BARC in Moulton, Alabama in 1992 after a few years I assumed the office of
Treasure, and have held it till to date (2007). Our club has seen a lot of
ham’s come, and go but still continues to exist as a club. We still have
meeting on the 2nd Tuesday night of every month at 7:00 o’clock PM.
In 2006 a great thing
happened to me in Amateur Radio, my wife Judy, and my son Dylan became Hams at
the Huntsville Hamfest in Huntsville, Alabama. I am now working on my daughter to get her license
to. May be in the near future my whole family will be Ham’s.
Well that’s about it for now I will be adding stuff at a
later date…… 73
Sonny
