BARC Minutes - February 10, 1998

The meeting was called to order at 19:07 by Ed Weatherford.

Minutes from January 13, 1998 meeting read and accepted.

Treasurer's report read and accepted.

Rex reported that the repeaters are working ok. 146.96 still has a problem when it is used for a long period of time. He also said that it is being PL'd from Midnight to 5:00 AM

Greg reported that the January VHF contest was successful, generating 13,700 points. He and the other contesters are looking forward to the June VHF contest and he encourages everyone to participate.

Ed reminded everyone that Field Day is the last full weekend in June and that we need to appoint a committee in April. He also suggested (jokingly) that Mark give a talk on weather safety. He also announced that the Jesse Owens run is on May 17th this year;we will need volunteers as usual. Dues are payable in May at the same time as officer elections.

The Hamfest committee met on January 29, 1998. The two pressing issues are vendors and advertising. Ted reported that he sent invitations to many vendors. Many have said no and many others have not responded. Ted will be forwarding a list of vendors to Mark to post on the website as he confirms them.

Ed reported that we can buy an ADI-146 2 meter mobile for a hamfest door prize at a very good price. Ed asked for a motions to approve the purchase. Ted made a motion. It was seconded by Steve, voted on and carried.

Lee reported that the flyer is on the Birmingham ARC website.

Rex asked that everyone who wanted to be on the alpha pager weather net, see him.
