Welcome! I am a retired Coast Guard Officer, currently working as a marine surveyor and maritime safety consultant with the American Admiralty Bureau. I am also a ventriloquist and magician. My wife, Pam, N3XFL, is a teacher at Elvaton Christian Academy and also performs along with me as Evangeline the Clown. I first became interested in amateur radio as a Cub Scout, but in those days I would have had to travel 150 miles from my home town of Snow Hill Maryland to Baltimore to take an examination, so I gave up for a while. After I retired from the Coast Guard, I got a Technician Plus license through the Anne Arundel Radio Club. I upgraded to General about a year later, and at the same time Pam got her technician license. This has allowed us to move our family communications from CB (groan) to 2-meter FM (yay!). I still use CB to monitor channel 9 for emergency calls from motorists as a member of Prince Georges County REACT, Inc. I am also a member of the Green Mountain Repeater Association. Besides 2-meter FM, my station consists of an Icom IC-725 delivering up to 100 Watts and a Heathkit HW-8 QRP CW rig which puts out a whopping 2 Watts. Antennas include a parallel dipole for 10/15/20/40/60/80 Meters, and a Wilson Alpha V58 CB antenna retuned for 10 meters. Other demands on my time include the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Inc., where I am a volunteer Firefighter and EMT, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Church of the Redeemer (Evangelical Covenant), the Society for Creative Anachronism, and The Longship Company, Ltd. 73! - Bill
