The purpose of this web site is to provide information about the construction of the N3NHD propagation beacon.It has been said that all great things start with an idea.Well,a propagation beacon may not be a "great" thing but it can be a useful thing.I'll use the web site to document the building of the N3NHD beacon from an idea to an actual on-air propagation beacon.
BEACON STATION PLAN:
1. To establish a propagation beacon in New Castle County,Delaware operating on any or all of the following frequency bands:
28 MHz
50 MHz
144 MHz
222 MHz
432 MHz
902 MHz
1296 MHz
2. To build,buy or modify a transmitting aparatus capable of producing a maximum of 5 watts rf output on a continuous basis,24 hours-a-day,7-days-a-week.
3. To build or buy a keying circuit for producing a beacon message.
PURPOSE OF BEACON STATION:
1. To provide the amateur community with a reliable indicator of propagation enhancement.
2. To provide the amateur community with a reliable and continuous signal to test their receivers and antennas with.
3. To gain some technical skills so I can get out of my present dead-end job!
Forgive me if I seem a little "wordy" or "stuffy",we just had a snow storm (Jan.26,2004)and I'm a liitle bored.But I am serious about building a propagation beacon.It seems like a fun project to work on and it should serve the amateur community well.With this web site,I'll walk you through the processes of constructing the beacon as I go through them in real life.
