Emergency Management Information

Emergency Management can be broken down into four phases:

Every municipality and county in the state are required by law to have an approved emergency management plan. The plan consists of all aspects of emergency services. Local Emergency Planning Councils (LEPC's) work together to identify which hazards endanger their comminity and plan accordingly. LEPC's usually consist of traditional emergency personnel such as police, fire and EMS as well as non traditional emergency personnel such as Health Department, Public Works, Engineering or Building Department, School board members, Finance personell etc.

Each municipality must have an assigned Emergency Management Coordinator and deputy. Each county has a county coordinator and deputy.

Here in New Jersey, Emergency Management at the state level operates as part of the New Jersey State Police. The state OEM transacts with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The State OEM is divided into three regions, North, Central and South, each with its own regional State Police coordinator.
