for RARA's 1999 picnic I made a small hidden transmitter from an HT and a BASIC Stamp. It put out about 100 milliwatts into a dummy load so it was an on-foot only hunt. We had lots of fun hiding it in the bushes and even burying it underground. We got some of the kids interested by asking them to hide it for us a few times, then we hid it and showed them how to find it.
