What is Santa Net?

Santa Net is a yearly tradition dating back several years...first with the Newington Children's Hospital and more recently the Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford, CT. Les, ka1krp, did it for 4 years while it was in Newington and continued doing it once they moved to Hartford.

Santa is sitting at the "North Pole" with his "elves" making toys for Christmas. The part of Santa has been played by Greg Roach (Country 92.5 and now Lite 100.5 FM) for about 6 years. The Santa character is not a visual role, but an audio one, via amateur radio. I played the part of an elf...luckily, the elves' part was also auditory...I stand 6'4" and NOBODY would believe that I was one of Santa's elves! :-) We would be the background workshop noises by making the sounds of hammers, sawing and even drilling!

Santa's "helpers" go from room to room with their radio allowing the children to talk with Santa and tell them what they want for Christmas. Most times the family is also present. This helps to bring a little happiness to the room that may not have been there before. Everyone goes away feeling just a bit better than they came...a good time is had by all who participate as well as the children and their families.

If you are interested in participating, please send an e-mail to Les, ka1krp and let him know.
