Letter From Our President
Dear Fellow Hams,
We have gotten through the first snow. It looks like another yo-yo year, going from below freezing all day to above 50 several times as winter sets in. The National Weather Service predicts very cold weather and a little less than normal precipitation for the winter.

The Club's Harvest Dinner was a pleasant gathering. We met at Pizza Delight in Edmonston, NB.  Members present were: KW1C, N7GLR, KA7VNR, NIPMS, NIJHD, N1QMC, N1UYA.  Others present were Stan Flagg, Sandra Bernstein, Mona (VE9MSD), Robert (VE9RMD) and Cindy and Robert,  Jr.. Doucette. The food was very good and, the conversation entertaining and educational. We wish more of you could have been there to share the event with us.

At the Harvest Gathering,  N7GLR gave N1UYA a vertical antenna to give the Fort Kent Elementary School. The antenna was delivered to the school a couple of days later. I still do not see it mounted, so will check with the school this week.

The ARRL sent an interesting item two days ago. They are looking for more Pilot Schools for their Big Project. I will encourage the Fort Kent School to apply.

You will find important Rocky Mountain information on page 3. Please read it.

 HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!

Report of November "Meeting"
Called to Order: 18:45
In Attendance:  N1UYA,   N7GLR, KA7VNR
Secretary's Minutes:
Treasurer's Report:

Have you paid your dues yet? We need you as a member to continue our ARRL Affiliation and to continue the work of the club.

Old Business:
Rocky Mountain: Noted that the Rocky Mountain repeater is not operating. Its silence was noted on Oct. 27th.

This was a very informal meeting. We had decided at the October meeting to have the Harvest Get Together instead of the November meeting. However, N1UYA, received an e-mail from N7GLR at 6:00 PM on the night of the meeting confirming a meeting for that night---or rather, requesting confirmation. Since I had been away all afternoon, I could not remind him of the no meeting. So I went to UMFK, after asking N1PMS to please go to UMFK to tell Charley and Ruth I would be late. Thanks, N1PMS.

  New Business:

Since this was not an official meeting, we conducted no business, just had some interesting discussions and ate Eskimo Bars (brought by N7GLR.)

              Rocky Mountain Repeater Update

On November 4th, N1UYA and Stan Flagg drove up to Rocky Mountain. The road in to the base cabin was improved. It had been widened and then was no problem, except a rather high hump in the middle. The trail up the mountain was in fair shape. Somebody had clipped some branches. I don't know who, but thanks to whoever.
There were four blow downs, one a beautiful clear 16" diameter spruce.
Stan cut away the blow downs, except the one at the top, which someone else had cleared somewhat. On the exterior, everything looked okay.

On Nov. 17th, N1CHF and N1JHD went to Rocky Mt. They found the trap door had been broken open (heavy plywood) and some one had entered the tower building and moved some of the radio equipment. Steve found a blown fuse, which he replaced.  He does not know why it was blown. The batteries were dead. They were also dry. Water was added. N1JHD did  a lot of work on the door, putting  in new screws for

the hinges and repairing the broken wood.  It is hoped there will be some sun to recharge the batteries soon. Please do not try to key up the Rocky Mountain Repeater until you get an e-mail from me telling you the repeater is operational again. Many thanks to Steve and Gil for their work.

CAN AM DOG SLED RACES 2002, 10TH ANNIVERSARY
The dog races will be held March 2,3,4,5
Please save the date and give all the time you can. Our club is now pressed for providing enough operators. We will have to make a statewide appeal again, which we will do soon. If you want to be at control center or a certain check point , please tell  N1UYA by Nov. 1st.

My announcement about this last time, yielded offers from help from only 4 people. Two of those WA1YNZ and KA1CQX. I hope we are going to get more local help. PLease contact N1UYA.

A Bit of Humor

Try to picture these ,collected by Richard Lederer:
* Some 40 % of female gas station employees in Metro Detroit are women, up from almost 9 a year ago. * Winners at the card party were Miss Wilma Schmidt, a turkey, and  Mrs. Ethel Riggs, a chicken. * The Chico, Calif., City Council enacted a ban on nuclear weapons, setting a $500 fine for anyone detonating one within city limits.
