Those who support In-Band, On-Channel Digital Audio Broadcasting (IBOC-DAB), also known as "HD Radio,"  claim that their system will "bring CD-quality sound to FM radio and FM-quality sound to AM radio." This system, brought out by iBiquity, does not do what their proponents claim it can do. It delivers inferior audio, suffers from a garbling effect, also common of digital cell phone networks and Internet radio stations accessed via dial-up modems. It is also spectrally inefficient, wasting up to 100 kHz of AM spectrum space and up to 800 kHz of FM spectrum space. FM Stereo ALREADY DELIVERS CD-quality sound in less than 200 kHz of spectrum space, while the Motorola C-QUAM AM Stereo system can also do the same in less than 20 kHz of spectrum space. With the analog signal removed, it is still spectrally inefficient, rendering 40 kHz of AM spectrum space and 300 kHz of FM spectrum space absolutely useless. The shortwave broadcasters and European AM stations are pushing DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale), which is also spectrally inefficient. On FM stations, little or no Stereo separation can be discerned. The following stations have made the illogical choice of broadcasting in the unproven "HD Radio" system, which is really Low-Definition Radio.
