Military Police School "Force Cell" is responsible for all Marine Corps unique "force" training conducted. All Marines who graduate from the Basic Military Police Course are trained in the following "Marine unique" subjects:
Deadly Force / Use of Force / Force Continuum

In this block of instruction, Marines are taught the specifics of deadly force, use of force and force continuum. All Marines are issued a copy of MCO 5500,6F as well as appropriate handouts which relate to the classes. As part of this training, Marines are taught the proper use of a Statement of Force form as well as how it is to be completed in accordance with MCO 5500.6F.

Defensive Tactics / Baton Course Study

Prior to 1996, Marine Military Police students were trained in Pressure Point Control Techniques (PPCT), certified in Monadnock's PR-24 Advanced Course and trained in Armament Systems Procedures (ASP) expandable baton course.  Because of liability issues, training time constraints and costs, in 1996 a study was conducted comparing many defensive tactics and baton courses to determine which was more applicable to the Marine Corps missions in CONUS as well as OCONUS. The outcome was the basis of switching the curriculum to reflect the following programs.

Open Hand Control Techniques

Marines are certified in the Monadnock Defensive Tactics System (MDTS). This program includes open hand skills, handcuffing techniques and holstered weapon retention techniques. This system provides a "foundation" on which to be built upon by individual unit training programs. Instructors are certified by the Monadnock PR-24 Training Council, Inc. Students are provided a certification card upon completion of the course. Non-commissioned Officers attending the MP Basic Course are provided the opportunity to be certified as MDTS Instructors. Those who complete the course are presented with an Instructor Certification Certificate as well as the required lesson plans to conduct their own certification or sustainment training.

Impact Weapons- Side Handle Baton

All Marines are certified with the side handle baton prior to graduation from the Military Police School. The curriculum used is the Monadnock PR-24 Advanced certification program. Instructors are certified by the Monadnock PR-24 Training Council, Inc. Students are provided a certification card upon completion of the course. Non-commissioned Officers attending the MP Basic Course are provided the
opportunity to be certified as MDTS Instructors. Those who complete the course are presented with an Instructor Certification Certificate as well as the required lesson plans to conduct their own certification or sustainment training.

Impact Weapons- Straight Baton

Straight baton / Expandable baton certifications are offered as an "elective" course which Marines can participate in on a volunteer basis. Curriculum used is the Monadnock Expandable Baton / Straight Baton certification program Instructors are certified by the Monadnock PR-24 Training Council, Inc.

Firearms Training
Pistol Qualification

All Marines complete the following training prior to graduation:

Blocks 1 - 5 Pistol Qualification Block 6 Pistol Presentation Exercise Block 7 Low Light Target Engagement Exercise Block 8 Multiple Target Engagement Exercise Marines receive a detailed student handout outlining all the classes which they attended as well as sustainment level training which will be useful for when they re-qualify.

Firearms Training
Shotgun Familiarization Fire

All Marines "FAM Fire" the M1200, 12 gauge shotgun prior to graduation. Familiarization course fired is outlined in MCO 3574.2_ . Marines also receive a detailed student handout outlining the military shotgun, it's characteristics and firing techniques

Simulation Training

Marines are exposed to judgmental shooting utilizing the ISMT / FATS machine. Recently, the ISMT was updated to cover the entire continuum of force. Students are required to react to the screen using verbal skills, OC spray, baton strikes as well as firearms.  Instructors have the capability to "branch" the scenario based on the individual students responses.  After the completion of the simulation training, instructors discuss the actions of the student and make a more realistic critique based on the students reasoning.
