Subject: Rock-Mite Kicks Atmosphere Date: Thursday, September 19, 2002 11:49 AM CORRRECTION OF PREVIOUS POSTING- [included below-rc] In a previous post from 9/10/02 I reported my 20 minute Rock- Mite QSO with ZL4IE in Dunedin, New Zealand from my QTH in Columbia, TN. I later found out that ZL4IE, Alex, is 91 years old. Well, it turns out that this DX contact actually spanned 8485 miles at 500 milliwatts or 30 miles short of 17,000 miles per watt (I goofed somewhere in the previous great circle distance calculation and got 7500 miles for the actual distance between our stations the first time for my earlier posting). I was at QRP-ARCI website checking out the "miles per watt" certificate when I recomputed on their link to www.indo.com. I recomputed at another site and got the same new distance. Okay guys, fire up you Rock-Mites and top this 8485 mile DX QSO at 500 milliwatts! THIS IS A 2.9 OUNCE RADIO!!! My antenna- 4 element monoband yagi at 110 feet. ZL4IE has wire antenna (G5RV or similar). 72, Jerry N4EO ---- From: "jerry brown" To: "Low Power Amateur Radio Discussion" Subject: ROCK MITE DX- N4 to ZL4- distance of 7500 miles Date: Tuesday, September 10, 2002 6:45 AM Alex, ZL4IE in Dunedin, New Zealand ***559***gave Jerry, N4EO in Columbia, TN ***559***and we had a 20 minute QSO this pm.
