In 1956 Rob discovered KOMA and WLS and KFI and WSM which got Rob
very interested in hearing far away stations. ShortWave was unknown
to Rob in 1956, Rob was only 7 years old in 1956!!! It was not
until 1963 when his grandmother gave him a very old floor model
of the Zenith Transoceanic receiver, the tubes in this radio were
marked as 78,42,45,48,etc... One tube was not in its place, so Rob
plugged it in, and turned on the radio to 15 mhz, to his surprise
and to his families surprise, Rob picked up Radio Australia!
There was no antenna for the reception, just the built in wire.
In 1965 the Zenith Transoceanic was donated to the South Platte Flood
relief group. And Rob want out and bought a Hallicrafters S-120 in
1965 . In 1967 Rob heard the Dx Party Line and joined ASWLC.
In 1968 Rob got a Radio Shack DX 150 , in 1970 Rob got a
Drake SW 4 A used the Drake until 1977. In 1978 Rob got a
Radio Shack DX 300 which was the worst ShortWave Raceiver ever
made, Got rid of the DX 300 in 1980,and in 1980 Got a KenWood
R-1000 receiver. I had the Kenwood R-1000 until 1997
