| This is a
very interesting key which was used aboard
British Bombers in WW-II.It is a sealed key with
a leather membrane which sealed it and made it
'flameproof'.Therfore, it could be used in
explosive enivroments without danger of having
the sparks form the keyignite an explosion. The
unusual mechanism is mounted upside down and it
has a nice crisp feel. Since the key wasused on
aircraft, it incorporated an interesting feature
whereby the spring clip which held the key
closed, could be pushedfarther in so that it held
the key knob in the down position. This allowed
an operator to set the key to transmit a
constanttone if the airplane had been damaged and
the radio operator had to bail out. The tone
could be used to help locate the plane.(75) |
