test freqs for scanners

Sometimes you may want to check that your scanner is functioning by 
trying to receive various signals that are always on or frequently 
on.  Following is a short list of freqs that I can hear in Bergen 
county, NJ:

493.75 Mhz TV channel 17 WBFM audio, continuous (will sound
  distorted on NBFM receivers)
454.1 Mhz paging service, continuous
162.55 Mhz Noaa weather, continuous
49.83 Mhz baby monitors, very local
29.66 Mhz 10Meter repeater, sometimes during the daytime

Knowing some of these can help you evaluate the quality of a scanner
at a hamfest.
