Joint Field Day a Huge Success!

The Narraguagus Bay Amateur Radio Club and the Ellsworth Amateur
Wireless Association teamed up at the end of June for a joint Field Day
weekend on the blueberry barrens of Deblois, Maine.

The two clubs set-up at the C&D facilities of Jasper Wyman & Sons, Inc.
The blueberry industy giant was very generous and allowed us to use
several cabins for equipment shacks, as they did for NBARC's 1999
Field Day as well.

This year, operators racked up 1,198 contacts: 600 CW and 598 phone,
nearly doubling NBARC's score from last year. The club almost max'd
out in claimed bonuses. If all contacts and bonuses are verified and
accepted by the ARRL, the Field Day score will be 4,896!

This year, the ARRL added the option of a Get-On-The-Air (GOTA)
station for Novice, Techs and "generally inactive" hams. This proved to
be a very popular station at our Field Day site and one that will surely be
included again next year if the ARRL keeps it in the rules. The operators
used the EAWA club call:W1TU for the GOTA station.

The primary CW and Phone stations operated under the NBARC call:
KB1CEJ. The CW operators were way on the other side of the field as
the phone operators just had to be next to the food cabin! hi hi.

Extra Kudos go to Kevin, K1FQ and Will, K1SMF for working the CW
station with just the two of them and racking up 600 QSO's (1,200
points).

Everyone that attended Field Day seemed to have a good time, and that
was the primary objective! Some operated, some helped erect or tear
down the antennas and equipment, some cooked, N1EP ate, and some
came for moral support. All were appreciated. Through the weekend
event, there was an estimated total attendance of about 40 hams and
guests.
