From: "Tony Fishpool" To: Subject: stuff for 'the Rock-Mite files' Date: Wednesday, August 21, 2002 3:14 AM Rod, ... I have some other comments that may help builders.... The hum you mentioned in your notes also happened to me until I cased the PCB, so a metal box helps a lot here. The keyer's side tone was rather loud, so I took Dave Benson's advice from the construction notes and reduced the value of C8 which was 0.1uF. Anything smaller than 0.01uF produced a rather "strangled" beep, so I settled for that. I got a little more audio out by using the "tip" and "ring" of my headphones and isolating the "sleeve" (screen) connection of the headphones socket from the case. You get sound in both ears that way. This shows another blessing of using PCB for making boxes. You just need to clear the copper from around the hole. With a metal box you have a more difficult job of insulating the hole. Kind regards Tony G4WIF
