We have been in contact with one of our members over the Internet Graham - M0AEP who is currently on holiday on the Caribbean Island of Montserrat .
He is using the callsign
VP2MDD but he tells us he has heard very few signals form the UK so let us hope radio propagation conditions improve.

One of members Graham - M0AEP is going on his travels over the next few weeks to the Caribbean Island of Montserrat so let us hope some of us can make contact with him on the Amateur Radio bands.

There was not to many at the last club meeting perhaps due to the heavy snow that was falling.
However the two knew members Barry and James managed to make it and we got the rest of there practical training done in preparation for the Foundation license exam which they are taking on 23rd February.


The members and Committee would like to thank Lee - M6LSM / 2E0CJA for all of his help as Vice Chairman over the past year, Lee has decided to resign from this post and move on from the club.

The events for the coming year was discussed at the last meeting and it was decided that the club would once again be taking part in this years Mills On The Air event which takes place over the weekend of 12th/13th May.
Graham - M0AEP will be contacting the land owner for permission to use the same site as previous years and also applying for the license Notice Of Variation to Ofcom

Both Barry and James will be taking the Foundation license exam on 23rd February and the club will be there train and support them.

Radio propagation conditions have improved dramatically in recent weeks with the 28Mhz band seeing good openings to Eastern Europe the South Pacific and North America see the solar cycle 24 website for more details.

The results are out for this years RSGB Single Sideband Field Day Contest which the club took part in over the weekend of 3rd/4th September, please see here for the full results.
The club came in 8th place in the restricted section, many thanks to everyone who helped with this event and made it another success for the club.


There was not to many members at the last meeting however we managed to fill up the diary for future meetings until Christmas. The "What's On Page" will be updated shortly.

This years Railways On The Air special event station operation GB2NPR was a great success with many stations been contacted around the UK and Europe and also stations were contacted in the USA and Australia, quiet a few local stations were also logged on VHF so a good time was had by all.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who called us and we hope to do it all again next year...!. We
would also like to thank our hosts for this event Normanby Hall Country Park and Scunthorpe Society Of Model Engineers

It is with deep regret we have to inform you that one of our members Ron - 2ERWX passed away peacefully at Scunthorpe General Hospital today.
Ron used to get lots of enjoyment from his hobby of Amateur Radio and could be found operating the radio at the club's special event station operations. Our thoughts go out to his family and close friends at this very difficult time.

The application for the license Notice of Variation for this years Railways On The Air special event station operation at Normanby Hall Country Park near the town of Scunthorpe North Lincolnshire has been posted to Ofcom.

We can now confirm that all is in place to use the same field as last year for this years RSGB Single Sideband Field Day Contest which takes place over the weekend of 3rd/4th September.
We will be operating from the hilltop overlooking the village of Bonby near the town of Brigg North Lincolnshire.
Visitors are most welcome so if you are in the area why not come and see us and have a drink and a chat.

Plans were outlined for the forthcoming  RSGB Single Sideband Field Day Contest at the last meeting and we can confirm that Bonby Parish Council have contacted us today regarding the use of a site for this event.


Some more labels were stuck onto the club's QSL cards by the members at the last meeting ready to be sent to the RSGB QSL card bureau.

The main topic at the last meeting was to finalise plans for the forthcoming Winterton Agricultural Show which takes place over the weekend of 2nd/3rd July.
The club has a display stand at the show and will also have a demonstration Amateur Radio station set up so why not come and see us and say "hello".


There was also a brief discussion at the last meeting about  Practical Wireless QRP Contest and the RSGB Backpackers Contest


Graham - M0AEP also gave a breakdown on how the RSGB Train The Trainers went on 18th June.


The clubs new QSL manager Geoff - 2E0GAJ told us that he hopes to have the stick on labels printed and will bring them to the next meeting to get them stuck on the QSL cards.

The clubs activity in the VHF Practical Wireless QRP Contest went fairly well despite the poor weather with stations contacted in North Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Bolton, Liverpool and Sussex as well as many others.
The station was located on top of the Lincolnshire Wolds at 340 feet/103 meters above sea level overlooking the village of Saxby All Saints near the town of Brigg North Lincolnshire.

It was decided at the last meeting that the club would purchase a gazebo for use at forthcoming events to try and avoid some of the problems we have had in the past erecting a very complicated tent...!.

On Sunday the 12th June a small group of the members will be operating a VHF portable station from the top road overlooking the village of Saxby All Saints, they will be giving a few points away in the Practical Wireless QRP Contest and will be operating from 9am until 4pm and visitors are most welcome so if you are interested in the hobby why not come and see us and say "hello". We can now confirm that the club will be operating a special event station at the Winterton Agricultural Show
This event takes place over the weekend of
2nd/3rd July the aim of this event is to promote the hobby of Amateur Radio to the general public and hopefully recruit some new members to help the club grow in the future.


Lee - M1DEN told us all at the last meeting that he has now got the clubs 17 element 2 meter yagi antenna refurbished and it is operation and a small group of members hope to take part in some of the forthcoming VHF contests.

This years Mills On The Air special event station operation went well using the callsign GB2WPM operating from the Wrawby Postmill near Wrawby, Brigg, North Lincolnshire, England. Some 435 contacts were made over the weekend of 14th/15th May and we would like to thank everyone who called our station and made this an enjoyable event for our members.
QSL cards for this event will be available shortly and information will be posted on this website as soon as they are been sent out to QSL bureau.

Special thanks must also go out to Colin - M6FLC who provided all the catering for this event, this is a very important job as when operating from a field location for long hours and often in poor weather conditions a warm drink and hot food are a very welcome sight so thank you once again Colin for all of your help.

We can confirm that the club can use the field near the windmill at Wrawby for this years "Mills On The Air" special event station operation.
Many thanks to Mr. Geoff Tew and the other owners of the field for allowing the club to use their land again for this event.

After speaking with members the committee took the decision to cancel the last meeting, this was due to the adverse weather conditions we have been having over the last couple of weeks.
Let us hope the weather improves for the next meeting on the 23rd December, this will be the club's Christmas party so we hope to see you all then for some festive cheer...!.

The idea of mounting the tower on a trailer that the club was gifted in mid October was discussed at the last meeting. It was decided by the committee and members to look into the club registering as a non profit making organisation and looking at getting possible funding for this project.
If the club can not get any funding for this it was suggested that the tower be sold in spring 2011 and the proceeds used for other club projects and equipment.

Our club members have been invited to a "Junk Sale" at Scunthorpe Steel Amateur Radio Club on Tuesday 9th November at 8pm but if you want to have a good look at the gear for sale try and get there a bit earlier.
There should be some good stuff on offer as Bill - G0DLL is still emptying his bottomless garage...!.

It was nice to see Harold Scrivens at the last meeting. Harold is the RSGB Regional Manager.
He suggested that the club consider entering the
RSGB's club of the year, we will be giving this some consideration and would like to thank him for bringing this to our attention.

The "Railways On The Air" event went very well with around 420 contacts been made including Australia, Tasmania, New Zealand, Cuba, Canada, USA and many contacts in the Uk and Europe, many thanks to Lee - M1DEN for the loan of his radio equipment for this event.

The clubs entry into the  RSGB Single Sideband Field Day Contest is still looking good and we hope to get the results in about a week, so in the meantime well done to everyone that took part and thank you for helping with this event.

The clubs first contest event the  RSGB Single Sideband Field Day Contest went very well and we made a total of 786 contacts, thank you to all that helped with this event and well done on achieving a very good score.

It was decided at the last meeting that the family day would not go ahead at this time, however the club will be taking part in the RSGB Single Sideband Field Day Contest over the weekend of 4th/5th of September. It was suggested by
John - M0IIE that we could incorporate this as a family and friends social event and also set up some other radio equipment for members to operate who are not interested in contest activity.

We have received a quote from Emil - LZ3HI of 36 Euros for the QSL cards for the "Windmills On The Air 2010" special event and Gordon - M0GIQ is going to take a higher resolution picture of the mill for us.

Some events were discussed at the last meeting for the summer months including some VHF contest operation and the possibility of a small group of interested club members taking part in both the VHF and HF SSB field day contests.
Fred - G0AOJ also purposed that the club should organise a family day sometime in late July to mid August.

VK7ZE - Laurie in Tasmania.
It was great to see some of the newer club members having some fun on the bands.

The clubs subs for the year 2010 / 2011 are due by 29th April the fee is £15.


2nd April 2010

The club is still in the process of planning some more special event stations for the coming year and next year 2011, this has been left in the hands of Jim - G6CMX


Jim - G6CMX is also looking into the possibility of the club operating a portable station from
Bull Sands Fort in the Humber Estuary.


Congratulations to all the club members who took the license exam and all passed so the club had a 100% pass rate for the first training course it has run, well done to all who helped to make this possible and we would like to say a special thank you to Gordon - M0GIQ who was the lead tutor.


As an official Amateur Radio License Examination Centre the club will be hosting the Advanced License Exam on 24th June 2010, If anyone is interested in sitting the exam please contact Jim - G1PPP who is the Examination Secretary. Please see the Training Page for contact details.

We can now confirm that the candidates taking the license exam will be going ahead on Wednesday 31st March, good luck to everyone and many thanks to Gordon - M0GIQ for all the work he has done by running the training course every week.

We can now confirm that the club has permission to operate from the same site as last year for the "Windmills On The Air" special event station, this event takes place over the weekend of 8th and 9th of May.

We have had some response from the letters that John - M6BBB and Gordon - M0GIQ sent out recently but unfortunately many of the local Radio Amateurs are not to active at the moment or are unable to make it to the club for health reasons, however let us hope that we see some new faces at the next meeting.

John - M6BBB with the help of Gordon - M0GIQ and his XYL Sandy have been composing a letter to send out as a mail shot to local Amateur Radio enthusiasts with a view to gaining some new members. These letters should be posted out sometime during the coming week. An email has also been sent to the RSGB for the club to be mentioned in the GB2RS news broadcast.

19th December 2009

The club's meeting venue is now an official Amateur Radio License Examination Centre, this means that all classes of the license exam can now be taken at the premises.


11th December 2009

Last night was the last meeting until the new year. It was also the last training session last week this will also resume in the new year please see the Training Page for up to date details.

Everything seems to be going well with the license training course and it is hoped the candidates will take there exam in early January 2010, good luck to all in advance.

We had a visit from Harold Scrivens - G0UGE the RSGB Regional Manager to inspect the club venue with a view to it been used as an examination centre.

The QSL cards for the for "Windmills On The Air"  event which the club took part in May are now in the hands of the RSGB QSL bureau. Many thanks to Jim - G1PPP  and Collin - M6FLC for there help with this and also thanks to

We are pleased to let everyone know that the club will be starting an Amateur Radio License training course in the next couple of weeks once all of the paperwork has been put in place. Please keep an eye on the Training Page for up to date details.

The "Train The Trainers" day was discussed at last nights meeting and  Dave - M0OGY  , 
Gordon - M0GIQ
and Jim - G1PPP are to go for a days training on the 19th of September run by the Radio Society Of Great Britain


The possibility of planning another field day before the weather gets to bad was also discussed.

We visited the Brigg & District Servicemen's Club and it was decided that we will adopt this as the new venue for the club meetings.
We also discussed the QSL card for the special event station we put on the air recently and it is been left in the hands of

The design of a QSL card for the club callsign was also raised and a few ideas were discussed .
Dave - M0OGY told us that he would be posting the forms for the club callsign application to Ofcom next week.

The club is now an affiliate member of the Radio Society Of Great Britain and one of the advantages to club members is that they can purchase books ect... at a discounted rate.

Some of the members went out an activity on the air day on Sunday 3rd of May they were operating /Portable from a place called Nettleton Top which is located near the town of Caistor on top of the Lincolnshire Wolds at a height of 151 meters / 500 feet above sea level you can see some video footage on Youtube by clicking  here

We hope to finalise the plans for the "Windmills On The Air" event at the next meeting to be held on Thursday 7th May if anyone has any ideas they wish to discuss please feel free to raise them as the committee of Brigg and District Amateur Radio Club feel it is the members club and as such all the members should have equal input to all club activities.

We have been in contact with Ofcom today and they inform us that we can choose a club callsign in the Mike Zero Gulf... series onwards and there will be a £20 administration fee for issuing the license.

We have now received the Notice of Variation for the "Windmills On The Air" weekend and have been issued the callsign GB2WWM this event takes place over the weekend of 9th and 10th of May.
I have spoken with Nigel - G0CMK last night on the telephone and he tells me that we have got the go ahead for the Windmills on The Air site at Wrawby so let us hope that we receive our special event callsign in time - this event takes place on the weekend of 9th and 10th of May.

9th and 10th of May 2009. We hope to use the callsign GB2WWM and operate from the Windmill located on the outskirts of the village of Wrawby near Brigg North Lincolnshire.

As discussed at the last meeting the club committee is in the process of looking at setting up a training course for the Foundation Amateur Radio License and also the option for existing license holders to upgrade to either an  Intermediate or Full class License.
