In view of the proximity of the holiday, and knowing that a lot of the folks in MN close down the "cabin up at the lake", this is a great time for the famous MNQRPS Show & Tell Session. All members should bring something that they feel might interest the membership to show and talk about, such as homebrewed items, new kits, equipment, circuit diagrams, books, ideas, etc.
The October meeting will probably be the ARRL Affiliation Ceremony, starring Jay Bellows KØQB of the ARRL (and also MNQRPS Member #88). So many things have been happening at the League level (like the new registration requirements, license reciprocity, etc.) that we are going to try to get Jay to update us as the main October program (this has not been finalized but looks good).
See you Saturday if the creek doesn't rise.

MN QRP Folk,
Had fun in the BUBBA contest, even though the weather was perfect. The temperature was about 73 with 60% humidity so I figure the heat index was about 72 degrees. I sat at a picnic table at Herman the German Park in New Ulm using my 20-meter SST with fishing pole vertical and enjoyed the contest. After working about 2 1/2 hours of the contest I was able to make 19 contacts from 13 different states so my point total with temperature and outdoor QTH was 35568. That must be somebody's zip code :^).

Anyone interested in forming a Fox hunting team? The season is just getting set up and will start in Oct. I am not real serious chasing the foxii, but it may be fun to see how we can do as a group, and generate some local interest. It's all just for fun and a good reason to get on the air. Give me a call if you are interested.

The Altoids tin has become part of QRP history thanks to rig designs like the NorCal 49er. Well, history is very likely to be made again. There is a baby brother Altoids tin out there. A recent post to QRP-L sent me to the local Target Store where I found a display on the end of an aisle dispensing "The Tiny Tin" Altoids. This little box is just begging to have a little rig built in it.

I've already started the plans for one including batteries! I found that a battery of three 3volt lithum coin cells will fit in the bottom and provide 250 mah @ 9volts. Not bad for such a small battery, although the cost is a bit high at about $2.25 a cell. Still to get it all in such a small case would be marvelous. SMT of course. Now for a good tranceiver circuit. Maybe even use a PIC and a really small LCD display. Haven't had any luck finding the latter in the usual catalogs. Maybe a few of you might want to get together and help with the design?
