August 1999 Volume 2 Number 8

Minutes from the July Meeting

By Les Bearle N0PPF

The meeting was held on Saturday July 3, 1999. There were 7 members and one guest in attendance. There was no real business conducted due to a lack of a quorum. The program topic was QSL cards.

Cla made a presentation on how to make QSL cards yourself using Microsoft Word or QSL Maker 2.0 written by John McDonough WB8RCR. You can download the software from John's homepage at this URL http://www.qsl.net/wb8rcr/

One of the better suggestions was making a master QSL page and having a copy shop, like KINKO's, make 100 or so on card stock instead of trying to run card stock through your printer.

Several members brought their most memorable QSL's. They were very interesting and had lots of history with them. Two of the cards were from the same island about a decade apart. Over the years the island became a part of Japan and it was renamed. The card had a beautiful picture of the island. It was the same picture and same call sign on both cards, but had different island names.

There were lots of additional discussions about various other topics and a good time was had by those few in town for the holiday weekend. The session ended about 3 PM.

Great Program this Saturday, August 7th!!!

By John KAØOSC, Program Chair

Hi, Folks!! We are going to have as a program an open discussion of Contest Logging Software, and other stuff relating to contesting. Craig AAØZZ will discuss and maybe even demo one of the more useful programs. Others familiar with contest software are being contacted, and we hope that they can attend. If you can add any comments about software that you have used, your contribution will be most welcome. This program will be as informal as possible, to give us plenty of opportunity to ask questions -- remember, "There is no such thing as a dumb question".

Hope to see a nice big turnout this time. Mark your calendars and get there on time, because what you can learn will stand you in good stead whether or not you ever do any contesting. Some of this software is unbelievable!

Change of Party Plans

By Cla Cadmus KA0GKC

President Les Bearl N0PPF and our revered Program Chair John Robertsen KA0OSC have been working on organizing our upcoming ARRL Charter Party. The August meeting was supposed to be the date for the event. However scheduling problems have occurred and the decision was made to try for the October meeting. The September meeting was ruled out due to the Labor Day weekend and the expected lower turn out.

Field Day Score a Success

By Cla Cadmus KA0GKC

Larry, KB0R, reports our score was 2850 points including bonus points and we made about 270 QSO's running 2A Battery. This is up from last year's 2535 points and 205 QSO's. Special thanks go to Larry KB0R and Bill N0BSN for all their efforts.
