NEXT MEETING OCTOBER 3^rd at 1:30pm

Program this month will be Bill, N0BSN on QRP Pactor/Digital mode communications and Claton, KA0GKC with a bit of technical how to. Information on using these modes and simple mods to your QRP CW rigs will be presented. Along with inexpensive software suggestions.

Minutes of September 4^th 1998 Meeting of MNQRP Society

Attendence: 13 "Old" Members, 1 New Member and 2 Visitors. Excellent attendance for Labor Day weekend. Thanks to all that attended.

Old Business:

Need a presenter for the November program. Contact John Robertson, KA0OSC. Looking for any topic.

Because of the interest in the PIC chip and it programming at the last meeting, it was decided that we would start a special interest group. If you are interested please contact Cla.

We are waiting for "Club" hot sauce, our prize for winning the FYBO. Were not real hot for it right now however...

New Business

Nothing this time, maybe next time, but only if really necessary.

Alas, I forgot to time the meeting but I know that it was not a record setter.

FYBO HOT SAUCE ARRIVES!

Jim, N0UR reports via the MNQRP email list that our prize of HOT SAUCE has arrived for our FYBO win. Jim will distribute the spoils to the deserving ops etc. Time to start thinking about the next FYBO too! We have to defend our first place standing and need all the help we can get.

PIC Special Interest Group Starting

Via the club email list, we have organized the beginnings of a PIC SIG. A PIC is a microcontroller that comes in a great variety of configurations and can be programmed to perform special functions. These chips are used for such things as keyers, digital displays and controllers for DDS systems. More and more of these are being used in Ham radio projects. Just this month QST has published a beginners look at these fascinating devices. Some of us decided we would like to learn how to use and program these chips. We have about twelve of us lined up and have settled on the book "Easy Pic'n" by Dave Benson (no not the one your thinking of!) as our class text. We will be meeting after the October Meeting to finalize how we're going to proceed and hand out various course resources.
