A STANDARD CONVENTION FOR POWER SOURCE CONNECTORS
Standardization of power cable connectors for certain amateur radio equipment has a number of advantages to recommend it. Interchangeability, safety, and convenience are arguably the most important among these. On the down side, for a standard to be of use to more than a single individual, standardization requires change, and change always en\-counters resistance. It is hoped that the advantages of the following system will be of suf\-ficient reward to make changing to this proposed standard convention worthwhile.

Convention
1. Gender of connectors always refers to the metal parts (pins and sockets), not the plas\-tic parts.
2. The type standard for connector pairs is Radio Shack #274-222 or equivalent, with 0.093" terminals. Mounting style (inline, chassis-mount, right angle, pc board, etc.) de\-pends on application, provided that it is system compatible.
3. Connector pairs are pinned so that the male pins are in the female plastic holder, and the female sockets are in the male plastic holder.
4. Polarity will be such that the terminal nearest the connector apex is the dc positive connection, with the remaining one the negative.
5. The female connector will be connected to the current/voltage source, and the male connector will be connected to the load. Where possible, all hot terminals will be female.
6. Extension cables will have a female connector on one end a male connector on the other end.
| 7. Useful adapters: | Gender changers (male/male and female/female) |
| Lighter socket to male standard | |
| Banana females to male standard | |
| 5-way binding posts to male standard | |
| Automotive bayonet socket to male standard | |
| Miniature bayonet socket to male standard | |
| Multiple coaxial power connector to male standard | |
| Pigtails to male standard | |
| Battery clips to female standard | |
| Spade lugs to female standard | |
| Lighter plug to female standard | |
| Multiple coaxial power sockets to female standard | |
| Standard male to inline fuses to standard female |
