NEARLY ALL THE STUFF IVE BUILT HAS BEEN BUILT THE DEAD BUG STYLE &

THE FIRST TIME I TRIED ANYTHING IT WAS SHEER LUCK BUT IT WAS QUITE EASY WHEN I LOOK BACK NOW. ....IT WAS A BEAT FREQUENCY OSCILLATOR
WHICH U CAN USE ON MOST SHORT WAVE BROADCAST RADIOS AND LISTEN TO SSB SIGNALS WITHOUT PULLING THE RADIO TO BITS IT JUST SITS BESIDE THE RADIO IN A SEPERATE BOX OR WHATEVER U LIKE
HERES ANOTHER GREAT WEE PROJECT TO TRY ITS AN AUDIO HI/LO PASS FILTER
THIS NEXT PROJECT STARTED WHEN I BOUGHT A SMALL KIT AND BUILT IT UP AND WAS AMAZED AT THE RESULTS IT WAS THE RAMSEY HR 80 AN 80M DIRECT CONVERSION RECEIVER AND WITH THE ABOVE PROJECT ADDED TO IT THEN THE AUDIO OUT CONNECTED TO A SUITABLE AMPLIFIER I COULDNT BELIEVE MY EARS U WOULDNT BELEIVE THE STATIONS IVE HEARD WITH THAT LITTLE BOX FROM USA TO AUSTRALIA AND DURING THE DX SEASON [ WINTER TIME] IVE EVEN HEARD N7ML WEST COAST SO WHO NEEDS KENWOOD EH?
FROM THEN ON IVE BUILT A FEW DIFFRENT BAND MODELS JUST CHOPPING AND CHANGING BITS HERE AND THERE AND THEY R ALL DEAD BUG STYLE
THE ONLY DOWNFALL WITH DEAD BUG RECEIVERS IS TO TRY TO KEEP ALL WIRES AS SHORT AS POSSABLE BECAUSE THEY R PRONE TO BREAKTHRU FROM OTHER BANDS BUT IF U GOT AN A.T.U WELL THIS WILL HELP U CUT MOST OF IT OUT ...THE ORIGINAL HR80 KIT WORKS WELL WITHOUT AN ATU

homebrew antenna's
here is some antennas i have built in the past and present and all have worked well
i like to play with antenna s to see if i can squeeze that little bit more signal from them
first there was the 10m 4element beam made when i was on 11mtr band many years ago
it seemed to be quite good for directional rxing but never had the chance to transmit as i wasnt allowed on 10m
and it was a heavy antenna so only got it 15ft or so up the mast but that was my first and it inspired me to investigate further about the yagi antenna.. most of the beams built have been taken from books and fiddled around a little
a good book on yagi antennas is THE BEAM ANTENNA HANDBOOK by william orr W6SAI and stuart cowan W2LX

MATERIALS FOR THIS COST JUST UNDER £40 QUID AND FOR THAT PRICE ITS WELL WORTH PAYING

I ALSO MOVED THE DESIGN FREQUENCY DOWN A LITTLE TO 28.450MHZ
SOME FINE TUNNING WAS NEEDED BECAUSE THE ELEMENTS ARE TAPERED
REFLECTOR AND DIRECTOR HALF TUBES ARE CONNECTED TOGETHER WITH 12 INCH OF 1.6CM TUBE
AND ISOLATED FROM BOOM AND DRIVER IS JUST SPLIT DIPOLE AND FED WITH BALUN
WORKING ON A BETA MATCH ( HAIRPIN ) SOON
DRIVER ELEMENT WAS ALSO MOVED BACK TO 1.3M SPACING FROM REFLECTOR FOR BETTER F/B GAIN
THIS BEAMS DIMENSIONS WERE PUT TO THE PC AND CHANGED FOR BEST GAIN AND F/B RATIO
COMPUTER CLAIMS A WHOPPING F/B OF 43.39DB AND FORWARD GAIN OF 8.10DBI
MY TESTS SHOW A F/B OF 36DB .....FORWARD GAIN STILL TO BE TESTED
