2005 - Annual Meeting - 2005

Membership     2006 AGM

Pres Tim Pepper K8NWD The MI-QRP Club held its annual meeting at the hamfest in Marshal Michigan on Saturday March 19, 2005. There were twenty members in attendance, the meeting was presided over by Club President Tim Pepper K8NWD.

Several proposals were introduced, once the details are worked out there adoption into the club's activities should go a long way towards expanding interest to members and visitors alike.

Club President Tim Pepper K8NWD, on behalf of the MI-QRP Club, expressed thanks and appreciation to Jim Brooker WZ8K for his donation of the Club's new Domain Name http://www.miqrp.org. You may now use this URL to connect to the Club's Website.

The Little Brown Jug: Interest was shown in re-introducing the "Little Brown Jug Award" for one of the four contests events the MI-QRP Club sponsors each year. Traditionally the award was presented, for one year, to a Michigan club submitting the highest score in the ARRL Field Day event.

The Little Brown Jug idea was suggested by Director Ralph Burch W8LCU at our 1988 annual meeting. It is ceramic and was specially fashioned by Helene Sloan (XYL of Treasurer Don WD8PRW). The basic color is beige with the trim in dark brown. It is 9" tall with a 51/4" girth. The finish is glossy and the 'Jug' is "a sight to behold".

The Little Brown Jug's first public appearance was at the 1988 FD in Genesee County. Three clubs submitted logs, you guessed it, Genesee County FD Group (K8JRO) took the honors. Eastern Michigan ARC (K8EVP/QRP) and Sanilac County FD Group (W8IDT/QRP) were the runners up. The Jug is once again ready to take its yearly jaunt around Michigan.

QRP to QRP club field day style contest was proposed. The suggestion was to hold this as a field day event at the QRP level at a date other than ARRL's traditional FD. QRP operating is ideal for field/outdoor activity and another date may lessen the QRM experienced during a normal field day. Make you thoughts known on the MI-QRP Club reflector or send me an email and I’ll forward it on.

MI-QRP Club AGM 2005 A Michigan QRP "All Michigan Counties Award" program was proposed by Stan Arnett AC8W. Stan offered to administer the program. Once details are worked out information will be up on the "Awards Page".

The MI-QRP Club will sponsor the QRP plaque for the "Michigan QSO Party" being held on April 16, 2005 from noon till midnight. This contest is an all power event but QRP is well represented, check out their website for a host of details and other information, its well worth a look.

A proposal was made to form a West Michigan Chapter within the MI-QRP Club. Certain conditions need to be met to comply with the Club by-laws before getting approval from the board. The basic being that a minimum of five members, in good standing, are needed from within the geographic area. This sounds like a good idea it would give members on the West side greater opportunity to eye ball, share ideas and keener interest in this aspect of the hobby which in turn would benefit the Club as a whole. Anyone interested in forming or being involved in a chapter in the West side should let their thoughts be known on the reflector or email me and I'll pass it on.

If you are not already a member of the MI-QRP Club Yahoo reflector it may be benificial for you to sign up.
