40 METER VERTICAL

The 40 meter vertical is an old vhf mast I  bought at radio shop in London it was  in my garage for some time the mast is made up of number of aluminum poles making a telescopic mast, the length was 40 feet  and held together with jubilee clips  it diameter of bottom pole was 2.5" and top pole was 0.375" .One afternoon I got out of garage and start to put the mask together on our patio  and realized I could not use this as a vhf mask but as a hf  antenna I could adjust length to be resonance on 40meter as a 40meter 0.25l ground plane .  At that time I just moved in to my present QTH, I wanted to mount the 40 meter vertical near to the oil tank I had an old telephone pole which was bough of BT   I have dug a hole 4 feet deep to put pole in and cermets the pole  I let the cement dry for about 2week this made sure that cement was well set we had have path made before I had the path laid I put some of that fence wire  ( square holes ) from local hardware shop and laid under path this will be path of my ground system   I adjust the length of pole to be  33 feet and 2 inches and by tiring the pole to telephone pole and use antenna analyzer to adjust the length of pole for resonance I found in local farm shop that sold large jubilee clips which was 6" diameter by use 2 clip connected end to end I could go round telephone pole and the antenna  I use 12  jubilee clips to hold the antenna to pole
