Why Become A Member?

We are the Risca and District Amateur Radio Society, a friendly group of amateur radio enthusiasts who meet once a week on Tuesday evenings between 7pm and 9pm. We take part in various radio related events and activities throughout the year. The club is affiliated to the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB), a national body representing amateur radio, and is a registered training and examination centre.

We are a diverse group of people, male and female, young and old. Not all of us live in the Risca area. Some existing members are from as far away as the Bristol area and all parts of South Wales. This includes Blackwood, Caerphilly, Tredegar, Abertillery, Abergavenny, Cwmbran, Cardiff and other locations near Risca.

Club Activities

We take part in a number of activities such as contests, which are a way to encourage friendly rivalry between clubs. Field days involve getting the radio equipment set up outdoors.

We also invite members and invited guests to give talks during our club evenings. It's a great way to meet people and make new friends!

You Don't Need To Pass Exams

If you don't want to join a course or take any exams, that's no problem. You won't be allowed to make radio transmission, but many people just enjoy listening.

If you think that you have a radio related interest that would enhance our club, why not come along. You've got nothing to lose!

How much does it cost?

The annual cost of membership is £20 per year. The 3 exams change costs in April 2023.
