What is U.I. View
UI View is the British version, developed by Roger Barker(G4IDE), of the American A.P.R.S (Automatic Packet Reporting System).
The purpose of UI-View( UI standing for unnumbered information ) is to apply packet radio to real time events, especially where information must be relayed quickly.
UI-View accomplishes this graphically by displaying real time information on maps that appear on your computer screen.
UI-View communicates using unconnected packets (un-numbered information or UI frames) which contain the station's position, status and any messages.
The position packets contain latitude, longitude and the station type, of the transmitting station. Stations might be home based, portables, mobiles, digipeaters, weather stations, etc.
UI-View receives these packets, processes the information and displays an appropriate symbol on a map showing the location of the station. If a station is mobile and is moving, UI-View
changes the position of that station on the map when it receives new position packets indicating a change location.
An excellent book entitled "Getting On Track with APRS" by Stan Horzepa (WA1LOU) will give you more information.
