I activated this summit, with Jimmy and Liam, on Saturday 11th June 2005.
Having managed to leave behind the flask of Thai Chicken soup in the hallway, I drove down the M6 and M54. We took breakfast at "Ron's Snacks" trailer parked just outside Shifnal services. We parked in the usual spot just off the end of the M54 at the NE end of The Wrekin, and walked up the usual track past the tea rooms. Jimmy and myself set the GPS for, and tried to find a geocache "Wrekin Havoc", but failed again, and that's three-out-of-three now. During the activation, we were treated to around half-a-dozen low passes by military helicopters getting ready for the following day's RAF Cosford Air Show. These were approaching at a height well below the summit, pulling up late and passing only a few feet above us. Just over two hours at the summit, pleasant conditions, 21 2m FM contacts, and back down for the drive home.
I was gigging that night in Elland near Halifax, and on the way home, about 2am, and 16 hours after it was warmed up in the pan, I rested and took a swig or ten from the flask. It was still piping hot! Thanks to the following stations, all worked on 2m FM:
