Stingwern Hill MW-030

Stingwern Hill, GW/MW-030 - 341m ASL - SJ 173 260 - OS Explorer 215 - 1 SOTA point        Map & summit information from SOTAwatch

From Long Mountain-Beacon Ring GW/MW-026, it was across Welshpool to the narrow lanes and the parking spot slightly north of Stingwern Hill GW/MW-030.  Liam asked if he could remain in the car and listen to the radio, and with the car in full view from the summit and all the approach, I agreed. Hence it was a very rapid ascent and qualification for Jimmy and I, although we again used the "proper" equipment as experience reminded me that this hill was not exactly the best take off point for VHF.

This activation was a little more pleasant, with the rain stopping and the sun peeping through.  The contacts took their time peeping through the ether, but we were eventually both qualified after 25 minutes on summit.  We dashed down to the car and made for our fourth and final summit of the day - Mynydd-y-briw GW/NW-060.  Many thanks to the following stations, all worked on 2m FM with 2.5 watts:
