Longridge Fell, G/SP-014 - 350m ASL - SD 658 410 - OS Explorer OL41 - 1 SOTA point        Map & summit information from SOTAwatch

From the parking spot for Fair Snape Fell G/SP-007 we had a terrible time getting lost and confused in the country lanes trying to get across to Longridge Fell G/SP-014, but eventually I found the road sign for Jeffrey Hill, so we were back on track. We parked in the usual pull-in a few yards from the gate. No sooner had we began our ascent than we met Stuart G0MJG and Keith G0OXV completing their own descent. Jimmy made a dash for the summit, while Liam stood still, despite my encouragement for him to get a few yards in while I was chatting. We had a natter about the Pennine Way and HF dipoles, and the weather of course.

We had spent the entire car run agreeing that we would cancel if the heavy rain continued, but it had finished when we got to the ascent start. Stuart and Keith had been caught in it, but Stuart was well equipped with a brolly! Jimmy made his four contacts with ease as I logged for him, and he set off with my car keys with the plan to collect the straggling Liam en route. I then experienced difficulty getting contacts, and the rain restarted which again rendered my ballpoint pens useless. BLH to the rescue again. After "mugging" G1JYB from an existing simplex QSO on 145.350MHz, Mike G4BLH arrived and was able to offer up two more radio amateurs in his home QTH at that time. I gratefully accepted, as I didn't want to start setting up beams and such as we had to be home for 7.30pm. Thanks again Mike. Two more summits crossed of the list of "final visits" and Jimmy's uniques, including the All 17 SPs In 2006 he has set himself.

Thanks to the following stations, all worked on 2m FM with 2.5 watts, except for my 2nd, 3rd and 4th contacts where 5 watts was used (but probably not radiated due to a problem with the antenna):

G4BLH Brierfield Mike J, T
