GB3ØØWES

May 4th - 5th 2003
Finningley Amateur Radio Society hosted the GB3ØØWES events for the May Bank Holiday weekend. It was an excellent event. There were, all in all, 10 operators in total over the two days, including one that had never operated before! We worked 40m and 20m with some activity on 15m and 80m and of course 2m.

The main run station for the event was the 40m station, run on a G5RV with 100W. The 20m / 15m station was run using a 3 element tribander beam and generated a lot of interest on the Monday.
The station was supervised by Royce Hunt, MØRHI and operated by members of Finningley Amateur Radio Society.
The target for QSOs over one day is about 150 QSOs a day. Therefore, about 300 would satisfy the target. GB3ØØWES made a total of 406 QSOs over the event, meaning we are well above the target.

Operator List

• Royce Hunt, MØRHI. Worked the main DX station on 20 / 15m. Also worked the run station on 40m early on Sunday. Worked VHF on the odd occasion.
• Eric Prince, G3KPU. Worked the main run station on 40m for a long time. Also made some CW QSOs on 40m, but worked a lot of the Europe-wide stuff - that's the stuff that keeps the numbers up - Faced a pile-up nearly all of the time.
• Paul Collins, MØPDC. Worked a lot of the VHF QSOs and was an invaluable logger on the HF station. Worked some DX and got the 'JA Run' of to a kicking start!
• Brian McInnes, G7SKW, and Kyle McInnes, 2E1KSR. Worked the VHF and kept it standing when nobody was about - did a sterling job, well done.
• Harold Scrivens, GØUGE. Excellent member of the team, showing some unlicenced members how it is done. Worked a heck of a lot on VHF and an integral part of the team.
• Cedric Overton, M3CMO. Worked a hell of a lot on HF. Was an excellent member of the team and put a lot of hard work in on both DX and run stations against the QRM that was experienced.
• Colin, M3CNZ, and Rick, M3CSU. Excellent DXers. Sounded like Old Timers - Worked and handled the pile up professionally and excellently. A credit to the society and could single-handedly hold a 20-strong pile-up even though only being licenced for less than a month!!!
