For me there is as much pleasure and satisfaction in making things for my hobbies as there is in the hobbies themselves and this applies nowhere more than amateur radio. Of course it's nice to have commercial ATUs, dummy loads, test equipment, antennas and the like, but I get immense satisfaction from making these sorts of things myself and then seeing them work just as well as their commercial equivalents, and that's why the workshop end of my shack is just as important to me as the business end.
