In the centre is a statue of Jackie Milburn a famous son of Ashington, a relative of the famous Charlton brothers also from Ashington. Top right shows a picture of the main street which is now a fully pedestrian area. Bottom right shows a view of Woodhorn colliery, which is now a free museum dedicated to the coal mining past of the town.Bottom left is a view of the Queen Elizabeth II park which was opened by the Queen Mother. In the background you can see the Lakeside Hotel and function rooms which has a large car park. Top left is a picture of Woodhorn church which is also a museum.

This is a picture showing the monument of a coal miner which is located in the car parking area of the WoodhornColliery museum. This monument commemorates the miners killed in the Woodhorn Colliery disaster on 13th August 1916.

A photograph of the pit head gear of numbers one and two winders at Woodhorn Colliery. The story goes that a manager came down from Scotland and had the winder painted green as he was a Glasgow Celtic supporter.

A picture showing the Coble fishing vessels located at Newbiggin by the Sea. A small fishing village which as around two miles from Ashington itself. It has a nice caravan site and golf course, plenty of pubs and clubs along with various eating places.
