This is a handy
antenna for temporary or portable use. It is easy to build and
has some decent gain. It can easily be pulled into a tree to get
maximum effect.
You will need:
1. 56 inches of
cheap 300 Ohm twin lead.
2. 72 inches or
more of 50 ohm coax.
3. Solder and soldering
iron.
4. Electrical tape
or better yet, shrink tubing.
5. String and means
to hang it.
Cut your twin lead
as shown in the picture below. Take care not to nick the wire
where the coax will be connected, this will weaken the antenna
connection. Cut the center conductor of the coax connection as
short as possible making sure the longer shield connection won't
touch it with normal use. Tape or epoxy helps to keep them from
shorting out.
Tape or shrink wrap
the coax to the bottom of the twin lead. The picture below is
drawn to the side for visual simplicity. I have used a piece of
a popsicle stick or plastic in the past to keep the two connections
at the bottom seperated and reinforced under the tape or shrink
wrap.
