... Disaster Communications Service for the South Bay

The Los Angeles County Operational Area Disaster Communications Service (DCS) is a volunteer organization made up of Amateur Radio Operators, administered by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Communications and Fleet Management Bureau. The mission of DCS, as authorized under County Ordinance, is to provide volunteer disaster relief communication for the citizens of Los Angeles County.  The combination of the Lomita Station and South Los Angeles Disaster Communications Service Districts under one management serve the needs of Los Angeles County Disaster Management Area G.

Districts 3/17/27 DCS serves the cities of: Lomita, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, Torrance, El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Lawndale, Manhattan Beach, and the Unincorporated Areas within the Lomita, South Los Angeles & Marina del Rey Sheriff Station jurisdictions.

We operate in the Sheriff's stations on Narbonne in Lomita, on Imperial in South LA and in Marina del Rey. Cities have their own Emergency Operations Centers, and many are supported by city radio organizations operating locally. We work with them providing a contingency link to the Operational Area (County) Emergency Operations Center and mutual aid when requrested. We also provide training to improve our emergency communications skills. Members operate the city and district stations as well as their personally owned equipment under the Federal Communications Commission RACES Rules and Regulations. Our group's amateur call sign is W6LMT. All licensed Amateur Radio operators are invited to join our District DCS group.
