We have invested in a Sony Digital Memory Recorder ICD-MS1 which allow us to make digital recordings. You will hear the same as we do via our head phones! We started this technique last year using a digital camera to record some pile-ups. We had a lot of background noise, the operator had to decide when to record and had to push a lot of buttons to start and stop the recording resulting the pile-up to drop down in rate.

Yaesu FT1000Mp

The Perfect Match for Digital Ham Radio Recordings.

This new recording unit will be directly be connected to the FT1000MP's so no background noise is recorded, it will make use of the Monitor function and the second head phone extension of the FT1000MP. One push on a button and the recording started, one button to stop it. We can make recordings of 2 hours before we have to upload the stored data to a notebook. This will take a couple of seconds because it's using a 16 Mb memory stick. It's also very easy to split sound samples into smaller chunks so they don't get to big to download. Of course we convert them for you as Real Audio file to keep the file as small as possible.

We hope to create a big breakthrough so other big expeditions will follow our sample and make recordings of the pileup as the DX station hears them via the Head Set. The listener can learn from this how an operator works, what calling stations do wrong in order to get a better operator their selves.

  • Yes we know, they are big, most of them are 5 minutes Real Audio to give you an impression how the pile-ups sounds from here
  • Best is to download the Real Audio file first so you can repeat it without reloading everytime
