John, W2GW, the LIDXA President, called to order the meeting of November 16 at 8:15 PM. Members present included John, W2GW and XYL Louise, K2MAU; Tom, KA2D; Ed, K2MFY; Steve, N2AJ: Bob, N2DXJ and XYL Tanis; Andy, W2VZQ and XYL Marilyn; and Marv, W2FGD.

OLD BUSINESS

Starting the business portion of tonight’s meeting was the approval of the October 19 meeting minutes. These minutes were accepted as presented. In addition, the minutes were prepared in advance by LIDXA Secretary, Ed, K2MFY, and sent out to the membership with the November meeting notice. Thanks to the efforts of KE2LJ, Pat, the minutes appear in the LIDXA web site at: http://www.qsl.net/lidxa

John, W2GW, LIDXA Treasurer presented the Treasurer’s report. Members were reminded that dues (in the amount of $20) for the year 2011 are expected by the beginning of the New Year. John suggested that members give, or mail him, their dues at the earliest convenience.

NEW BUSINESS

Ed brought up information on the club’s annual Holiday party. It is to be held at the Star Diner in Hicksville on Tuesday night, December 14 at 6:30PM. The arrangements would be the same as last year; namely, complete dinner with choice of three entrees for $26 (including tip and tax). Details would be provided in a future e-mail to the membership. Ed said member/guests should contact him regarding their entrée selection. By a show of hands, it appeared that about 10 members with/without spouses/guests would be attending this dinner.

Marv, W2FGD, also mentioned that the North Jersey DX Association would be holding their annual Holiday Party on Sunday December 12 at the Basking Ridge Country Club in NJ (tel.: 908-766-8200 for details, or contact NJDXA member Doug Rue, W2EN).

Tom, KA2D, HRU Chairman, reminded the membership that the 12th annual “Ham Radio University” will once again be held. The date is on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Briarcliffe College. As in past years the club will be presenting the DX Forum. Members W2FGD, K2MFY, N2AJ, and W2GW indicated their willingness to participate in the program. Ed, K2MFY, distributed to the presenters last year’s HRU agenda that the LIDXA followed.

Further updates in HRU 2011 can be found on www.HamRadioUniversity.org.

Marv, W2FGD, reminded the membership to check-in at the LIDXA weekly nets on Sunday night at 9 PM local time on the Grumman Hauppauge repeater at 145.330/144.730 MHz (with 136.5 Hz PL), to get the latest information on club matters and events.

With the business portion of this meeting concluded, John presented a DVD on the January 1993 DXpedition to Howland Island, AH1A, in the Pacific Ocean. Howland Island is a 400 acre, flat coral island; ½ mile wide and 1-1/2 miles long, located roughly 50 miles north of the equator and 1700 miles southwest of Hawaii. The island is a National Wildlife Refuge and managed solely for the protection of breeding seabirds, migratory shorebirds, marine turtle, the coral reef ecosystem, and all forms of native plants and animals. Over 52,000 QSO’s were made by this multi-national team.

This meeting concluded at around 9:45 PM after all the scheduled business and entertainment had finished. There will not be a meeting in December since the club is having their holiday party on December 14. The next LIDXA meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2011. John wished the membership a good holiday and hoped that he would see us all at the holiday party in December or at HRU 2011 on January 9, 2011.
