MINUTES OF LIDXA INC. MEETING — October 19, 2010


Location: Town of Oyster Ice Skating Center, Community Room 1, Bethpage, N.Y.

 

John, W2GW, the LIDXA President, called to order the meeting of October 19 at 8:15 PM. Members present included John, W2GW; Tom, KA2D; Karen, W2ABK; Ed, K2MFY; Steve, N2AJ and XYL Margaret; Bob, N2DXJ and XYL Tanis; Andy, W2VZQ and XYL Marilyn; Aaron, WC2C; and Marv, W2FGD.



OLD BUSINESS






Starting the business portion of tonight’s meeting was the approval of the September 21 meeting minutes. These minutes were accepted as presented. In addition, the minutes were prepared in advance by LIDXA Secretary, Ed, K2MFY, and sent out to the membership with the October meeting notice. John, W2GW, LIDXA Treasurer presented the Treasurer’s report.


Tom, KA2D, HRU Chairman, reminded the membership that the 12th annual “Ham Radio University” will once again be held. The date is on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Briarcliffe College. As in past years the club will be presenting the DX Forum. Members W2FGD, K2MFY, N2AJ, and W2GW indicated their willingness to participate in the program. Ed, K2MFY, said he would distribute last year’s HRU agenda that the LIDXA followed.

NEW BUSINESS


On the subject of future events the club decided to hold the Annual Holiday Party on Tuesday December 14. This party will be in lieu of a December meeting. The membership asked Ed to check the availability of the Star Diner in Hicksville and make arrangements.


A discussion developed on recent advances in new digital modes by amateur radio. The modes included ROS, “whisper” mode, and spread spectrum.


Tom mentioned that amateur radio operators are needed for the forthcoming “Run for Wounded Warriors” in Lindenhurst on Sunday, November 14–shortly after Veterans Day. Volunteers are requested to contact John, W2HCB. Also Tom reminded the membership that the annual CQ Worldwide contest (SSB mode) will be held on the weekend of October 30th. The CW portion of this contest is scheduled for the weekend of November 27–28.


Karen, W2ABK, passed around some pictures she had received from Pat, KE2LJ, illustrating his skills as an engineer aboard a steam engine locomotive.

Marv, W2FGD, reminded the membership to check-in at the LIDXA weekly nets on Sunday night at 9 PM local time on the Grumman Hauppauge repeater at 145.330/144.730 MHz (with 136.5 Hz PL), to get the latest information on club matters and events.


With the business portion of this meeting concluded, Steve, N2AJ, presented a DVD he just prepared on his July visit to Kuwait. His host was Mohamed, 9K2CS. Steve’s video showed some Coast Guard activities of the country under the supervision of Mohamed. A visit was made to Kuwait Amateur Radio club and some of the club members were seen.


This meeting concluded at around 9:45PM after all the scheduled business and entertainment had finished. The next LIDXA meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 16.
