President, called to order the meeting of
June 15 at 8:15PM. Members present included John, W2GW; Louise, K2MAU; Tom, KA2D; Andy, W2VZQ and XYL
Marilyn; Mark, WB2QJ; and YL Jane, KC2NOT; Karen, W2ABK; and Marv, W2FGD. Also present was ex-LIDXA member: Bob, W2SF.
John thanked Karen for taking notes
since LIDXA Secretary, Ed, K2MFY, was unable to be at tonight’s meeting.
A number of
members reported that there were good openings on 12 meters via E-skip
propagation. Also good openings to Japan
were noted in the mornings on 20 meters.
It was announced
that a DXpedition to Sable Island (CYŘ) is expected at the end of October. They also have openings for two operators.
The recent
DXpedition to Annobon Island as 3CŘC encountered a big storm and several
antennas came down. Activity will
conclude on June 20.
Starting the business portion of tonight’s meeting
was the approval of the May 18th meeting
minutes. These minutes were accepted as
presented. In addition, the minutes were
prepared in advance by LIDXA Secretary, Ed, K2MFY, and sent out to the
membership with the June meeting notice.

John, W2GW, LIDXA Treasurer,
indicated that most members have submitted their 2010 dues. The club has a total of eighteen full members
on its 2010 roster. Members not paying
their 2010 dues will be dropped from the club roster/e-mail list.
NEW BUSINESS
With Field Day coming up in two weeks (weekend of June
26–27) it was announced that LIDXA members have open
invitations for Field Day operations from some of the clubs listed below:

Radio Central
Amateur Radio Club and the New York Order of Boiled Owls will be joining forces
this year for field day at the Long Island Maritime Museum in West Sayville,
New York. The main call sign will be
W2RC and the GOTA call will be KW2O. For

The Grumman
Amateur Radio Club (GARC) will hold its field day at the Dix Hills Park and
Golf Course (a Huntington Town Park) located on the north side of Vanderbilt
Parkway, 0.8 miles east of Deer Park Road. This is the same location that was used last
year. Callsign will be WA2LQO.

The Great South
Bay Amateur Radio Club and ARES for the Town of Babylon will have Field-Day in
the park adjacent to the Babylon Town Hall, 200 East Sunrise Highway, North
Lindenhurst, NY. Talk-in will be on the W2GSB
2 meter repeater 146.685 MHz (110.9 PL).
Louise, K2MAU, demonstrated that her
I-pod was able to show sun spots via a 3-D Sun program.
Marv, W2FGD, reminded the membership to check-in at the
LIDXA weekly nets on Sunday night at 9 PM local time on the Grumman Hauppauge
repeater at 145.330/144.730 MHz (with 136.5 Hz PL), to get the latest
information on club matters and events.
This will continue throughout the summer.
With the business portion of the membership concluded, a
DVD was then shown on the January 2008
DXpedition to DXpedition to Guinea-Bissau as J5C. This operation actually took place at a
resort island (Bijagos Archipelago, Bubaque Island) off the West African coast The video showed the team members (about 16
participants) putting up antennas and operating the HF bands, including slow
scan TV. Also the DVD showed the
villagers, their huts, and a leisurely game of soccer. In conclusion the DXpedition made almost 62,
000 contacts.
This meeting concluded at around
10PM after all the scheduled business and entertainment had finished.
This is the last club meeting of the
season before the summer hiatus. The
next meeting will be led on Tuesday, September 21, 2010. John wished the membership a happy, healthy,
and DX-filled summer.
