In terms of DX, specific
activities were highlighted:
A DXpedition
to Niue Island as ZK2V is currently operational from Niue Island. The operator, ZL1CT/GM3WOJ, plans on being on
the island for five weeks.
·
A group was operational
as ZYØF from Fernando De Norohna Island.
The operation was from June 10 to June 14.
It was
reported that although the solar flux is low, good conditions are found in the
early evening on 20 meters and later on 30 meters. There have been random openings to Europe in
the early evenings.
Starting the business portion of tonight’s meeting
was the approval of the May 15 meeting minutes. These minutes were accepted as
presented. In addition, the minutes were
prepared in advance by Ed, K2MFY, and sent out to the membership with the June
meeting notice. Thanks to the efforts of
KE2LJ, Pat, the minutes appear in the LIDXA web site at: http://www.qsl.net/lidxa.
W2GW gave the monthly Treasurer’s
report. Members that had not paid their 2009
dues are now dropped from the club’s mailing list. Also Pat
updated the membership/e-mail list which appears on the club’s site.
Steve, N2AJ spoke on his attendance at the Dayton
HamVention in mid-May. He mentioned
about some of the new exhibitors and forums.
Ed mentioned that he had received a QSL card from
Jose, KP3T, along with a picture of him with several club members that was
taken about five years ago when Jose was a member of the LIDXA.
It was indicated that Grumman Radio Club will be
hosting special event stations in mid-July to commemorate the 40th
anniversary of the Apollo 11 manned landed on the moon. Grumman club members who have registered will
be signing the club station, WA2LQO/their home callsign. Operation will be from July 16 through July
21. W2ABK and K2MFY are club members who
have already registered for the event.
Marv, W2FGD, reminded the membership to check-in at the
LIDXA weekly nets on Sunday night at 9 PM local time on the Grumman Hauppauge
repeater at 145.330/144.730 MHz (with 136.5 Hz PL), to get the latest
information on club matters and events.
This will continue throughout the summer.
The meeting concluded early at around 9:30 PM after all the scheduled
business had finished. Since tonight’s
meeting was the last one before our summer hiatus, John wished the membership a good summer. The next meeting is scheduled for September
11, which is the second week of the month. The regular meeting, on the third Friday in
September, is the start of the Jewish New Year and there will be no meeting.
