MINUTES OF LIDXA INC. MEETING— June 17, 2005

Location: Briarcliffe College, Bethpage, N.Y.

The meeting of June 17th was called to order at 8:17PM.  Members present (per sign-in on the blackboard) included K2MFY, NN2C, W2FGD, AG2A, W2VZQ, KE2LJ, N2ZN, W2NDP, W2GW and XYL, KC2MAU, N2DXJ and XYL.

OLD BUSINESS

In terms of DX, specific activities were highlighted:

Starting the business portion of tonight’s meeting was the approval of the May 27 meeting minutes.  These minutes were accepted as presented.  In addition, the minutes were prepared in advance by the club’s secretary, Ed, K2MFY, and sent out to the membership with the June meeting notice.  Thanks to the efforts of KE2LJ, Pat, the minutes appear on the LIDXA web site at: http://www.qsl.net/lidxa.

Club Treasurer, John, W2GW, gave the monthly Treasurer’s report.

The membership was requested to attend the LIDXA weekly nets on Sunday night at 9PM local time on the Grumman Hauppauge repeater at 145.330/144.730 MHz (with 136.5 Hz PL).  The net will meet over the summer.

NEW BUSINESS

The club welcomed LIDXA member from Florida, Dan, W2NDP.  Dan spoke about DXing from the Sunshine State.  In order to activate DX-enthusiasts in his area near Tampa, Dan recently formed the Mid-Florida DX Association DX club.  This newly formed club has twelve local members.  The LIDXA has recognized the MFDXA as its “sister club.”  The MFDXA is registered with the ARRL and has the callsign W4FDX.  Also Dan has arranged for a club web site at http://www.w4fdx.com/.  Dan has been operating from some adjacent IOTA islands to publicize the club and to activate IOTA groups.

Although the MFDXA has registered two LIDXA members (NN2C and K2MFY) as Honorary members of his organization, Dan has granted any additional LIDXA members Honorary members status in the MFDXA.  At this time LIDXA members, AG2A, W2FGD, KE2LJ, W2NZQ, W2VZQ, N2DXJ and W2GW requested Honorary Member status in the MFDXA.

A video was now shown on the January 2002 DXpedition to South Georgia Island (VP8GEO) in the British Antarctic region.  Besides ham radio, the video dealt with the geography and history of this remote spot down under.

This meeting concluded early at around 9:45 PM after all the scheduled business and entertainment had finished.  Since tonight’s meeting was the last one before our summer hiatus, Marty wished the membership a good summer and indicated that the next meeting would be held on September 16, 2005.
