The Liberty County Emergency Communications Amateur Radio Club (LECA) is located in Hinesville, Ga. Hinesville is located to the SW of Savannah, Ga. just outside of Ft. Stewart. Hinesville is the county seat for Liberty County. The radio club maintains 2 repeaters on 2 meters. Our primary repeater is on 145.470MHz with a minus offset. The second repeater is on 147.015MHz with a plus offset. Both repeaters are open repeaters with open autopatch, everyone is welcome to use them.
The primary repeater is actually located on the east side of I-95 right at mile marker 70. The antenna is located 360 feet up on the tower which gives it an average height above sea level of about 345 feet. Our range north on I-95 goes about to the South Carolina state line and to the south about to mile marker 30. The repeater is a Mark IV by KENDECOM Inc. MICRO CONTROL SPECIALITIES with about 25 watts of power out and a 6 db antenna gain.
The second repeater is located on State Hwy. 196 at the Long/Liberty county line on the WHVL radio tower. Its antenna is also located 360 feet up the tower. The transmitter and receiver are the same as the primary system however the controller is a separate unit without some of the features of the Mark IV. This repeaters antenna is primarily positioned for the training areas of Ft. Stewart to allow use of the autopatch when the troops are in the field training.
