VII. OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES

B. Tactical Call Signs. Use of tactical call signs is recommended to clarify the functions of individual stations. These tactical call signs should be used in lieu of Amateur call signs for all initial calls, and for subsequent exchanges of traffic.

1. Recommended tactical call signs. Examples:

a. Linn EOC - Linn County Emergency Operations Center

b. Lebanon EOC - City of Lebanon Emergency Operations Center

c. "agency" - ARES station serving as Liaison with a specific agency (e.g. "Red Cross" or Salvation Army")

d. "Xxxxx" Shelter - ARES Station serving an emergency shelter
(e.g. "Saint Mary's Shelter" or "Brownsville Rec Shelter")

e. "Xxxx" Hospital - ARES Station serving as a liaison with a hospital (e.g. "Albany Hospital")

f. "Xxxxxx" County - Station serving as Liaison with another county.

g. "function" - The function you are serving (e.g. "Logistics")

h. - your assigned location (e.g. "Saint Mary's Shelter")

2. Assignment of Tactical Call signs. If at all possible, tactical call signs should be defined in advance of an event and distributed to participating stations for reference. In the event of an emergency where advanced assignment is impossible, net control (or the station himself) should announce the tactical call sign assignment as a station assumes a particular function. Examples: K7AA, please act as liaison with Marion County ARES on 145.39. Your call sign to this net will be "Marion County". This is WA7ABC I will be standing-by with The Tangent Fire Department, call sign "Tangent Fire".

3. Meeting FCC Requirements. Your Amateur call sign should be used at the end of an exchange or every ten minutes to satisfy FCC regulation 97.119. This is easily satisfied by terminating an exchange with your tactical call sign plus your FCC assigned call sign. Example: "Linn EOC ...Our last runner has finished .... K7AA, Clear."

4. Note that participation in a formal net is considered one continuous exchange. However, you need not identify every 10 minutes if you have not transmitted since the last time you identified.
