This two-part presentation is provided by Southern California Edison’s subject matter experts regarding two important electrical issues that have significant impact on ham radio operators. Each topic can also be presented by itself.

·        Electric Safety in the Ham Shack

This compelling overview of electrical safety addresses the prevention of deadly electrical accidents often associated with ham radio operators.

·        Radio and TV Interference (RTVI) Presentation

A semi-technical review of electro-magnetic and power line interference; their typical causes and remedies.  Includes identifying the source of most interference from both home appliances and utility sources and provides simple tips and remedies for locating and eliminating most RTVI.

About the presenters:

Charlie Basham, N6DZW,  is SCE’s Manager of Public Safety. He’s been a ham for more than 40 years and currently holds an Extra Class license.

Brian Thorson is SCE’s Electric and Magnetic Fields (EMF) Specialist.  He typically performs measurements and consults with commercial and residential customers on EMF associated with electric appliances, products and power lines. Brian is currently studying for his Technician license.
