Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club Hamfest -- Starts August 10, 2008

We want to invite you to come to the Great SBARC Hamfest and Family Reunion at the Elks Lodge in Goleta on Sunday, August 10, 2008.

See the attached flier and the Hamfest 2008 link at www.sbarc.org for full details. A few things to highlight:

Take advantage of the swap area, which opens at 8:30. Come early to set up, and bring those items you or your club want to sell. Call me at 805-967-9313 to reserve a spot so you can be assured of having a space set aside for you in the swap area. Parking spaces are all 9' x 18'. The first space is free, and additional spaces are only $10 each. If you didn't reserve a spot, you can still sell from your parking space in the parking lot, just maybe not adjacent to the swap area as cars fill up the rest of the lot.

See the back side of the flier for details on the VE Session. Call Darryl Widman KF6DI at 805-969-2326 to preregister.

Bring the whole family! The local astronomy club, the Astronomical Unit, will again have solar telescopes available for viewing ol' Sol. Kids and adults can also enjoy games including the Transformer Toss and QLF contest, plus we'll have the QSL card competition, and the winner of each gets a prize! Our alternative craft exhibit, located in the Grove, will be a demonstration of one-stroke painting.

Why not make a mini-vacation out of it! See the attached file for information on places to stay. You might find some are booked up by now, but give them a try.

See you August 10!

SWD Convention in Mesa, AZ September 12-14 2008

Arizona welcomes you to the 2008 ARRL SWD convention. On board for this

event will be vendors: ICOM/HRO/and many more. Programs will include: APRS, Propagation, DX, EmComm, Youth, yours truly, and ARDF, something for the ladies, ARRL Forum and other forums. For further information go to:  www.azhamcom.org

Due to the HIGH cost of fuel, I have suggested the possibility of arranging for a 55 passenger bus that will pick up at a pre-designated area and transport those who would like to be there all day Saturday, the 13th and leave either Saturday night or early Sunday morning. Times of departure, arrival, and costs will be determined by demand for this service. The option is also to start out early Friday morning and leave Saturday evening/Sunday morning.

I am researching the likelihood of this taking place. Please email me at: wu6d@arrl.org Tell your friends that don't receive ARRL emails. It will end up costing less, than the fuel you will have to put in your vehicle and you will be able to rest, talk to friends and have some refreshments. The sooner I know the quicker we can arrange it and know the exact costs. Then we can start taking reservations. It will be a European style bus.
