About Norwegian Radioscouts Network
Norwegian Radioscouts Network (NRN) is an organisation for interested Norwegian radio amateurs and scouts who have a common interest in amateur radio and scouting.
NRN was founded on March 8th, 1996, after an initiative from now Silent Key LA6CV Eivind, and is supposed to be an arena for radioscouts who wants to be supporters and "experts" to help the Norwegian Scouting Association (NSF) in radio, communication and technique matters. NRN also recommends persons to be appointed to the NSF Radioscouting representative. Finally, when it comes to activities on meetings, hikes, camps, JOTA/JOTI etc, NRN offers several services to the different Norwegian scouting units.
NRN are based on 100% volunteers, and we do not receive any formal recourses from NSF. It is an idealistic group of radioscouts who share their two hobbies; amateur radio and scouting, and who is willing to do something for Norwegian scouting. And it does not cost anything else than interest and will to join the Network.
During the year, NRN arranges two ordinary meetings, one in March/April and one in September/October. Those meetings are an arena for exchanging ideas, social activities and a little bit of work considering e.g. JOTA, security etc.
It is not any kind of management of the Network, but there is a coordinator (LA9SGA Morten Angvoll - mo.ang@c2i.net).
Norwegian Radioscouting has existed for a long time. We have been in the international radioscout environment since radio become a part of scouting. The Norwegian Scouting Association (NSF) has always had some elements of radioscouting in its organisation. This element's main purpose has been in organising the national part of the Jamboree-On-The-Air (JOTA). Today, it also covers the Jamboree-On-The-Internet (JOTI).
What Norwegian Radioscouting's main tasks, can be summarised in those points:
The Norwegian Jamboree-On-The-Air (JOTA) is of course a part of the WOSM JOTA event. Approximately 70 Norwegian amateur radiostations take part every year, giving almost 2000 scouts and guides the chance to meet other scouts via amateur radio. During JOTI, approximately 60 stations take part, and the number is growing every year.
The members of the Norwegian Radioscouts Network help Norwegian scoutgroups finding radio amateurs, and most of them also participate themselves as amateurs during JOTA. The typical JOTA station spend their JOTA on the local scoutgroup's cabin Saturday and Sunday, but several stations also uses the amateur's place or other utban areas. Especially when they attend both JOTA and JOTI or only JOTI, when telephone lines are required.
For use during JOTA, all the Norwegian scout associations have their own callsigns for jamboree use (LAxJAM) and general use (LAxSS) . Here are the most important, but several local groups also keep their own callsign:
The other calls from LA3JAM/LA3SS up to LA9JAM/LA9SS is used by the different christian corps' scout associations.
Eidsskog 2005 - The Norwegian 2005 Jamboree
Every four years, the Norwegian Scout Association arranges a national jamboree. In 2005, the jamboree was kept in the woods of Ingelsrud. The camp also contained a radio amateur segment. Firstly, LA1NSF was operative during the whole week. Secondly, the radio amateurs were responsible for the security communication during the hike, which lasted for three days.
Radioscouts have also been responsible for the security communication on the previous national jamborees; in Eidskog (Kongsvinger) 1993 and in Austraat (Trondheim) 1997 and Fredrikstad 2001. They all where great successes!
