While we were in the San Diego area in February of 2000, we stayed for several weeks in the town of Santee. This nice little town happens to have a water reclamation project going since the 60s, which includes five lakes, lots of fishing, over 150 species of birds and -- ta-dah! -- a LOT of excellent camping. We spent some of time in normal full-hookup sites at Santee Lakes, and some of the time exercising the solar panels and alternator, while camped in "boondocking" sites at the campground.
