Sheila and I were married in 1954 at University of Alabama and have lived in various places, but mostly in Newport News Virginia. I was born in Newport News and attended public school through high school in the city. I attended two years of prep school in Hartford Connecticut and later attended the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa Alabama where I received a degree in education with a minor in business.
In 1954 I was commissioned in the Air Force and served in Korea and Edwards Air Force Base, California at the High Speed Track Facility in the SCARWAF organization (aviation engineering group). I returned to civilian life in 1957.
I spent nearly 30 years in our family retail clothing business in Newport News and served as general manager for the Red Wing Shoe Corporation (stores east of I-95 in North Carolina and Virginia). Worked as a law office manager for six years and operated my own consulting business in the area of legal research. I worked a couple of years with May Company Inc. consulting in emergency room hospitals.
Sheila is proprietor of the Village Stitchery Shop in the historic Hilton Village section of Newport News. This shop specializes in needlework, cross stitch charts & kits, supplies. Support services include courses and such things as picture framing. I assist her in her operation as needed.
